What is a fat quarter?

A fat quarter is a measurement of fabric typically 50x55cm. Ideal for lots of projects including bags, masks, patchworks and quilts.

Which fabrics can I expect to find on your website?

We stock a variety of fabrics made from different materials, predominantly cotton and viscose/rayon, but this is ever expanding into more ethical and Earth friendly materials and fabrics including linen and tencel. You will find in our shop:

  • 100% Cotton lawn which is a silky, soft cotton, light and beautiful drapery, ideal for dress making.
  • Cotton jersey, is a knit fabric, that is a soft, stretchy material, commonly used for tshirts, childrens clothes etc. 
  • Quilting and Crafting cotton, this is a heavier cotton, ideal for lots of projects, from quilting, to dressmaking, these cottons come in beautiful designs and can make the perfect staple to your stash. This fabric is perfect for beginners as it is easy to sew with and can be used for a large variety of projects. Often used as a Cotton Poplin also.
  • Cotton Poplin, a heavier weight Cotton to Cotton Lawn, with more structure, less fluidity. This fabric is often used on dressmaking for shirts and blouses.
  • Rayon is a manufactured fibre from natural sources, such as wood! It is typically used in dressmaking. It is soft, comfortable and breathable.
  • Viscose is a type of Rayon, and is again used for clothing and dress making. It has a beautiful drape, is smooth, soft and light. We stock twill, lawn and jersey, ideal for different projects, twill offers more texture, less smooth, jersey offers stretch for t-shirts, leggins, and more; and lawn offers a lighter, smoother and beautiful drape – in comparison to Cotton, the fabric tends to be more opaque but more slippery to sew with.
  • Linen, made from flax, a natural fibre and one that is a staple in lots of sewists wardrobes. Offers a lovely light, breathable fabric ideal for warmer months for garments or for homewares.

How are you being eco & sustainable?

Our objective is to be a more Earth friendly business, be a brand that you can rely on to take responsibility for our impact on the planet and do what we can to lessen any harmful waste. We take measured decisions in who we work with and what we use. To name a few of the ways we do this:

  • Our packaging is paper and natural fibre based, so you can reuse, recycle or even compost some of our packaging. Our envelopes are compostable and plastic free and ocean friendly.
  • Our see-through sleeves are made from starch fibres, so are 100% degradeable.
  • We use kraft brown packing tape.
  • We may use alternative packaging, but it will always have been reused and can be reused again for your own packaging needs, examples such as bubblewrap for delicate items.
  • We buy from UK based Wholesalers, providing a lower carbon footprint.
  • We source and stock organic, sustainable and OEKO-TEX standard fabrics.
  • We stock digitally printed fabrics which uses less water in the printing process.
  • We work with like green-minded businesses.
  • I walk your orders to the Post Office or Post Box myself, rather than taking the car! 

We also work with other small businesses that we love, it is a privilege to work alongside them and whilst this isn’t the most Earth friendly point on the list, we think it is incredibly important that this small business supports other small
