A Christmas Wishlist Directory

A Christmas Wishlist Directory

It’s the first of December and the age old question is asked “what would you like for Christmas?” And your mind goes…blank.

I am here to help! Of course, chocolates are lovely, but sometimes you have to share those, and someone else always nabs your favourite. Fresh socks? Fantastic, but you’ve just darned all of your previously holey socks. So, instead, I asked indie sewing businesses to share their businesses with me on here, to give you a list of makers, curators, teachers and developers that you may not have heard of before.

This list may give you inspiration for your wish list or cross off something for a loved one, or if you’ve completed your shopping already, (because you are way more organised than me!) follow and like their content online – honestly, every little helps.

Sassy Doodle Co

“Hi, I’m Nikola, I started my own business as a result of not being able to find what I was looking for my dog, Dobby. In the beginning, I was sewing for myself and Dobby, but would often be asked if I sold my creations! I decided to go for it and opened my Etsy shop.”

Nikola’s Etsy shop is full of picture perfect neckties for fur babies, mindfully thought out for comfort, without affecting style. These beautiful bows are attached using velcro and Nikola is on hand to answer any questions.

Bluebell Hill Crafts

Home to 350+ Liberty fabric bias bindings and spaghetti cords, jewellery making supplies and hundreds of creative art journal and scrapbooking papers, stickers and washi tapes.

You can find Mira, the lady behind Bluebell Hill Crafts on Instagram @bluebellhillcrafts for sewing and mixed media inspiration, as well as shop updates.

I honestly couldn’t believe there are over 350 Liberty prints in Mira’s shop, and as much as I want to have them all to myself, sharing is caring. Bluebell Hill Crafts is heaven for sewing (and crafting) journal and haberdashery goodies.

PLEASE NOTE: Mira will be closing the shop for Christmas from 16th December, so don’t leave it too late (also a personal note to me, because I will forget!)

In a Haystack

Kate is the creator of In a Haystack, a digital sewing subscription, the year round indie sewing business directory.

Every month you receive a fun and flexible digital pack straight to your inbox. It is FULL of sewing treats and inspiration like swappable PDF sewing patterns, discounts (often 20%) for fabric, pattern printing, interviews, tips and tricks and more. You can explore it all with a lovely online community ‘the haystack pack’.

With gift subscriptions, and personal, available from one month to many, there is something for everyone.

Side note: Fleur et Ours featured in a pack and I loved it so much I subscribed! It is so thoughtfully put together, an audio version of the pack is available to listen to as well, and it is a very welcoming collaboration.

“Wee Joys

Was founded by myself, Hitomi, originally from Japan, as a way to unlock my creativity and satisfy my desire to do something colourful and meaningful.

I create accessories that are both stylish and functional. They are designed to uplift people above the hustle and bustle of their day-to-day lives.

All of my products are made by myself from the initial design process to the packaging and all are made with love. I thrive to create products in an eco-friendly and sustainable way by using off-cuts and OEKO-TEX certified fabric which is safe both for human skin and the Earth.”

Hitomi has a beautiful collection of products and having bought from Wee Joys myself I can say she is also incredibly speedy! Brilliant gifts for the eco-conscious.

Julie and Emily are a fantastic team, and have made me feel very welcome into the indie sewing world. Their magazine is fresh, with a modern aesthetic and the online copy allows you to go straight to advertisers and affilate content from the magazine (saves me googling it while reading, misspelling or forgetting who it was I was looking for, perfect!)

Steph Thannhauser Sewing Workshops

“My soul is fed with needle and thread”

Steph has 35 years of sewing experience and is a surface pattern designer you may recognise from some favourite Dashwood Studio prints. Teaching people to sew and sharing her love of creativity was a natural progression for Steph. She teaches in Milton Keynes area but is also planning on online courses too.

Having worked with Steph on a project bundle last year, I can say that Steph is absolutely lovely, a warm soul and a pleasure to work with. I am sure a course with Steph will be a fantastic sewing experience.
